Embark on a sonic journey with the Starshine, our first venture into the tone-bending universe of effects pedals. Inspired by the cosmos, this transparent overdrive delivers everything from the crushing weight of a neutron star to the delicate balance of celestial harmonies. The Starshine lets you seamlessly sweep between soft and hard clipping modes, offering versatile tonal control.

With gain settings up to 12 o’clock, experience subtle saturation that adds rich depth to your sound. Push the gain further, and your tone will slice through the vastness of space. Engage the Solo button for an extra boost during lead moments. Powered by standard 9V DC, the Starshine is your ticket to stellar soundscapes.

How it works

The Starshine is a transparent overdrive pedal designed for both guitar and bass guitar. But, don’t let that stop you from experimenting with synths, keyboards, or anything you want to add a little bite to. The Starshine was designed with ease-of-use in mind. That being said, let’s go over its features.

The Starshine has a simple Mono In/Mono out design for use with 1/4″ instrument cables. It uses a standard 9V DC Barrell-style power input, so it will work with your standard isolated power supplies.

  • Power is applied, and pedal is ON = green ON LED
  • Power is applied, but pedal is bypassed = red ON LED
  • Solo mode is active = blue SOLO LED
Use the GAIN knob to adjust the amount of saturation the Starshine adds to your instrument signal. By turning the GAIN knob clockwise, you increase the saturation. Up to the 12 o’clock position adds a subtle saturation, perfect for adding a little life to your rhythm playing. By going past 12 o’clock you will start to enter a more typical overdrive sound that lends itself to lead tones or more crunchy rhythm playing.

The TYPE knob sweeps your signal between two different clipping modes. All the way counter-clockwise is a soft clipping mode, while all the way clockwise is a hard clipping mode. Adjust your sound to your liking by sweeping between the two. The soft clipping mode is more subtle, while the hard clipping mode is(as you guessed) a little more aggressive.
This is essentially the master volume of the pedal. You can use the LEVEL knob to set the volume of the pedal higher or lower than your unaffected signal. The LEVEL does not affect the signal’s tone, just the overall volume

Think of the SOLO as a boost to the pedal’s overdrive sound. This stage of the pedal is activated by toggle switch on the right, also labeled SOLO. This will only activate if the Starshine is in the “on” position. You can use this function as a way to boost your signal any time you need a little more volume, such as during leads and solos. You can adjust this section to boost your volume up to 100%. The SOLO stage does not affect the Starshine’s tone, just it’s volume.
